Theodore Kaczynski, also known as the "Unabomber," is a convicted domestic terrorist who carried out a series of bombings between 1978 and 1995. Over the course of his bombing campaign, Kaczynski targeted universities, airlines, and businesses, killing three people and injuring over 20.
Kaczynski was born in Chicago in 1942 and had an exceptionally high IQ. He earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard and a PhD in mathematics from the University of Michigan. Kaczynski became a professor of mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley but resigned after only two years.
Beginning in the late 1970s, Kaczynski began mailing bombs to various targets, including universities and airlines. He went into hiding in rural Montana, where he lived as a recluse in a primitive cabin. In 1995, Kaczynski's brother recognized his writing style in a manifesto that Kaczynski had mailed to newspapers and turned him into the authorities.
In 1998, Kaczynski was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Since his imprisonment, Kaczynski has become an object of public fascination, with many people interested in his motivations and the circumstances that led him to become a terrorist.
